Universal adds mobile ordering for some eateries

- By Dewayne Bevil

Universal Orlando has introduced mobile ordering for five restaurants in its theme parks. Visitors can now use the resort’s app to request food from Mel’s Drive-In and Richter’s Burger Co. at Universal Studios park and from Burger Digs, Cafe 4 and Captain America Diner inside Islands of Adventure.

To use the service, which Universal has named Mobile Express Pick Up, visitors must have an account through the app. Although food can be ordered in advance, customers must be “on property” to create an order, according to the app.

The restaurants do not fill the order until customers tap “prepare my order” in the app. At that time, folks can hit the order status page to see what time the meal will be ready. Upon arrival to the eatery, they go directly to the designated Mobile Express Pick Up area.

This service works during regular park hours; during Halloween Horror Nights, it’s available at Mel’s and Richter’s.

Note: Orders with discounts — including those tied to annual passes, gift cards or the Universal Dining Plan — will not work on Mobile Express Dining Plan.

Walt Disney World began its mobile-ordering program in the spring of 2017 with the opening of Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s now available at select locations in all four theme parks and Disney Springs.
