Toy Story Land unwraps holiday look

- By Dewayne Bevil

There’s a new playground for holiday décor at Walt Disney World. It’s the first Christmas season ever for Toy Story Land, which debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park this spring. Disney has sprinkled the area with seasonal touches high and low. The land already has a holiday head start with strings of Christmas lights there yearround (We think Andy’s mom is pretty permissive when it comes to use of electric objects for backyard play, but we won’t judge).

It’s not an overwhelming amount of visual cheer. A lot of the sprucing up, as usual at Disney World parks, is toward the front of the attraction. But here’s some of what we saw.

Toy Story Land visitors are greeted by Rex, high on a stack of Jenga above the Slinky Dog Dash coaster and now sporting what would appear to be hand-crafted antlers. Andy’s a maker.

A nice photo stop is a Hamminspired cookie, although I’m getting a Lotso/strawberry vibe as well. (Peek behind the cookie to see a Green Army Man propping it up.)

Now here’s the oversized props I was hoping for: a string of popcorn and berries edging Woody’s Lunchbox. (Side pro tip: Use the mobile ordering here. It’s a sanity saver.)

Big ol’ alien-inspired ornaments are another photo stop. The Alien Swirling Saucers ride also has added two holiday songs, sort of techno versions of “Up on the Housetop” and “Deck the Halls,” to get your fa la la, la la la, la la la on.

Green Army guys lead the way in unexpected accessories: red and green camo.

Folks line up for pics with Buzz Lightyear, who has a supershiny Santa hat going.

Likewise with Woody and Jessie, who are more subtle in their holiday approaches.

Not to risk getting a lump of coal in our stocking, but we do have a wish list for Toy Story holiday looks that includes a big ol’ hat for Woody at the entrance, some giant package bows everywhere as Andy would stick them on Cooties’ heads and elsewhere and maybe a discarded Star Wars toy box somewhere over by the fence. Maybe if we’re good boys and girls next year …
