Big events close Orlando roads

- By Michael Williams

A plethora of special events in downtown Orlando this weekend may cause some traffic headaches.

The Florida Classic, an Orlando Magic game and watch parties for UCF’s prime-time game against Cincinnati are all slated for Saturday.

“This weekend, in addition to Downtown's regular active and vibrant scene, several large-scale events are planned and additional road closures will be implemented related to these,” said Cassandra Lafser, a city spokeswoman. “Event attendees are encouraged to plan their routes and specific parking location ahead of time and to give themselves enough time to antici-

pate any unforeseen delays.”

For the Florida Classic, the 39th annual football match-up between Florida A&M University and Bethune-Cookman University, roads around Camping World Stadium will be closed throughout the day.

Church Street will be closed from Tampa Avenue to South Orange Blossom Trail, while South Rio Grande Avenue will be closed from Central Boulevard to Anderson Street.

Parts of South and Colyer streets closest

to Camping World Stadium will also be closed. Kickoff is at 2 p.m., but the road closures are expected to begin at 7 a.m., according to the city.

Saturday evening, the Orlando Magic are scheduled to face off against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Amway Center at 7 p.m. Church Street from Division Avenue to Hughey Avenue is expected to close early Saturday afternoon, along with Division Avenue from Church Street to South Street.
