150 miles of Fla. coast to become garage sale

- By Anne Dunlap

A roughly 150-mile stretch on Florida’s East Coast will be turned into a shopping paradise when the Super Scenic Garage Sale returns for its 10th anniversary on Nov. 17.

Bargain-hunters can shop from 8 a.m.-2 p.m at more than 100 stops in five counties — Nassau, Duval, St. Johns, Flagler and Volusia.

It begins in Fernandina Beach (Nassau) to the North and ends in Ponce Inlet (Volusia) to the South. Participants include vendors, major communities, homeowners and businesses. A list of community sites is available at www.scenica1a.org.

The Garage Sale is expected to draw shoppers from across the Southeast and this year is a collaboration between the Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway and Florida Scenic Highways.

It helps provide “exposure for communities as well as our coastal corridor’s natural and historic resources,” said Bill McClure, president of the nonprofit organization Friends of A1A Scenic Coastal Byway.

The event offers folks the opportunity to explore four scenic roadways while they shop: A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway in Flagler and St. Johns counties, A1A Ocean Islands Trail in Nassau and Duval, and the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail and the Halifax Heritage Byway in Volusia.

Shoppers can download a free audio tour by TravelStorys in the app store and take a self-guided historic trek along the A1A Scenic Byway. Contact Anne at adunlap@ orlandosentinel.com or @osannedunlap on Twitter.
