Small Business Saturday: 10 places to shop local

ORLANDO – If you’re tired of holiday shopping at big box stores and malls, Orlando offers many local alternativ­es.

Nov. 24 marks Small Business Saturday — first observed in 2010 as a way of helping independen­t retailers get a boost in sales after Black Friday.

Central Florida has hundreds of local retailers excited to sell their wares. Here are a few suggestion­s of neighborho­ods and places with the local offerings to meet your small business shopping needs. live music and participat­e in raffles throughout the day.

The Altamonte Springs Adjectives Market features vintage furniture, gifts and home decor. On Nov. 24, for an outdoor “Unhinged Market Day,” the store is bringing artists and vendors selling clothing, jewelry, decor and more. Go to 1200 E. Altamonte Drive to find local vendors selling their wares. and home decor, there is no shortage of options when perusing Clermont stores for the perfect gifts.

You can find nearly a dozen Ivanhoe Village businesses helping people shop small this weekend. Find vintage clothing, jewelry and camera equipment at businesses that are only about five minutes from downtown Orlando.

In Audobon Park’s Garden District, you can “sip and stroll” as you shop at boutiques for clothing and jewelry. Or peruse Park Ave CDs where you’ll find vinyl records for the music lover in your life. You can enjoy live music at The Owl’s Attic, Stardust, East End Markey and The Lovely Boutique. Bonus: Browse an interactiv­e map to see what businesses are participat­ing.

The Milk District on East Robinson Street has sales and giveaways from bars and boutiques alike. Shop for collectibl­es, clothing and little knick-knacks like buttons.

On Small Business Saturday, you could wake up early, say hello to the Lake Eola swans, then take a leisurely stroll over to Thornton Park District. Find pet products, salons, and a boutique or two on East Washington Street, Summerlin Avenue and East Central Boulevard.
