Flacco returns to practice for Ravens

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco returned to the practice field for the first time since injuring his right hip Nov. 4.

Having finally received medical clearance to play, Flacco threw passes and worked on handoffs with fellow quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III during an indoor practice Thursday.

Jackson, a 2018 firstround pick, led the Ravens to wins in each of the last two games while filling in for the injured Flacco.

Although coach John Harbaugh hasn’t named a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Falcons in Atlanta, it appears likely Jackson will get the call.

Flacco has missed only eight games in his 11-year career and had played in 41 consecutive regularseason games before injuring his hip against the Steelers in Week 9.

Rookie running back Gus Edwards also returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday with an ankle injury. choice will come down to either Darnold or McCown, especially since Webb hasn’t yet taken a regular-season snap in the NFL and was on the practice squad until Darnold was hurt.

Darnold has missed the last two games with a strain in his right foot. He showed progress Wednesday by participating in team drills for the first time since being injured against Miami on Nov. 4. Bowles said Darnold had no soreness in the foot Thursday, and wouldn’t rule out starting the rookie even if he’s limited Friday.

McCown is dealing with a sore hand and back. His right hand was cut when he banged it on a helmet during the Jets’ loss last weekend to the Patriots. McCown played through it, though, and could be in line for his third straight start if Darnold isn’t ready to play.

The wife of Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly said her husband underwent what is hoped to be his last cancer-related surgery.

On Instagram Wednesday, Jill Kelly posted a picture of the former football player giving a thumbs-up sign from a hospital bed in New York City. Her comment said “all went as planned!”

In an earlier post, Jill Kelly said doctors told the couple it should be the 58-year-old’s last surgery.

Kelly last underwent surgery in March when doctors at removed cancer from is upper jaw and lymph nodes and reconstructed his upper jaw.

A portion of Kelly’s jaw was removed in 2013 after Kelly was first diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma.
