Police say Ga. man charged in homicide

A 19-year-old man from Georgia is accused of killing two men whose bodies were found Friday night at a Daytona Beach apartment complex, according to the police department.

Damon Kemp is facing two second-degree murder charges in the shooting deaths of Trey Ingraham and Jordan Paden, both 19 and from West Palm Beach, said spokeswoman Lyda Longa.

Police initially discovered the bodies in Ingraham’s residence at the Jade Park Apartments, in the 500 block of Jimmy Ann Drive, while investigating an armed burglary.

Kemp made his first appearance in a Volusia County court on Sunday morning and remains in the county jail after being denied bond, according to online case records.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri told reporters at a news conference on Saturday that Kemp knew the victims and was staying at the apartment at the time of the murders. Kemp is from Stone Mountain, Georgia, the case records said.

Investigators believe the fatal shootings may have happened the day before the bodies were discovered after some residents later reported hearing multiple gunshots on Thursday but didn’t call 911, according to Capri.

“These neighbors said they heard gunshots the day before — why didn’t they call?,” Capri said. “I think they failed by not calling. It’s everybody’s responsibility ... if you see something, say something.”

Ingraham was a former Bethune-Cookman University student, police said.

“To all the Wildcats out there, we’re just going to ask you to please keep these family members of these victims in your prayers,” BCU Interim President Hubert Grimes said at the news conference. “We need your support.”
