SeaWorld Orlando’s Sesame Street among theme parks’ additions

- Dewayne Bevil

Has your brain has been lingering in a galaxy far, far away, one that’s coming to a theme park not so far, far away in the near-ish future? We advise you to remember that attractions besides Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are coming soon to Central Florida. Before March is over, three have will debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, SeaWorld Orlando and Legoland Florida.

Here’s a quickie roundup of the next new stuff.

Keeping the clouds away

What: Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando on March 27.

What we know: The classic TV series comes to life with a recreation of the street scene, home of character interactions, a parade and two play areas (wet and dry). Six existing kiddie/carnie rides from the Shamu’s Happy Harbor era are rethemed with Muppets in mind.

What we wonder: Can we keep ourselves from pushing little kids off the stoop so we can get our Instagram pics sitting in front of 123 Sesame Street?

Movie time

What: Lego Movie World at Legoland Florida on March 27 (yes, the same day that we get to Sesame Street).

What we know: The area features three rides, including Masters of Flight, a flying theater ride aboard Emmet’s Triple Decker Couch; Unikitty’s Disco Drop; and Battle of Bricksburg, which features spraying cannons fired by riders and onlookers. There’s also a space-themed playground structure.

What we wonder: Can Master of Flight be, as whispered to us, an upgrade of Epcot’s popular Soarin’ ride?

‘Cars’ in gear

What: Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 31.

What we know: Hmmm, Disney hasn’t shared a ton of details, falling back on the idea that visitors will come “face to face” with the “Cars” character. “This will be the untold story of Lightning McQueen … as told by Lightning McQueen,” a news release says. We do know we’ll hear the voices of Larry the Cable Guy (Mater) and John Ratzenberger (Mack). The attraction is tucked away in an existing building between Tower of Terror and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster.

What we wonder: Is it too much to hope for that this could lead to more “Cars” experiences (coughcarslandcough) at Disney World?

Other upcoming attractions with announced opening dates include “Wonderful World of Animation,” a projection show at Hollywood Studios (May 1); Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure roller coaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure (June 13); and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios on Aug. 29 (after debuting at Disneyland on May 31).
