■ Athletics: Marcus Semien hit a grand slam in the eighth after his tying solo homer leading off the fifth, Chris Herrmann had a career-high four hits, and the Athletics beat the Twins 7-2 on Thursday. Semien sent the first pitch from Mike Morin over the wall in left-center for his 13th homer of the year and fourth career grand slam. He matched his career high with five RBIs while notching his fifth two-homer game and second this season. Wei-Chung Wang (1-0) pitched 21⁄3 scoreless innings of relief for his first career win in 34 appearances over parts of three major league seasons.

■ Cardinals: Matt Wieters and Dexter Fowler homered, Tommy Edman came through with another key hit, and the Cardinals rallied for a 5-4 win over the Mariners. Wieters hit a solo shot in the third inning and Fowler added a tworun drive in the fourth. Daniel Ponce de Leon got his first major league win, and Carlos Martinez worked the ninth for his third save.

■ Nationals: Anthony Rendon hit his 20th homer and knocked in the goahead run to help the Nationals finish off a threegame sweep of the lastplace Marlins with a 5-2 victory. Washington has won eight of nine and 13 of 16 to climb to a season-best four games over .500. Rendon was selected for the NL All-Star team for the first time in his seventh season but is considering pulling out of festivities next week in Cleveland to nurse some bumps and bruises. At the plate and in the field with a few perfect throws from third base, Rendon looked no worse for the wear.

■ Tigers: Niko Goodrum lined a two-run homer in Detroit’s five-run sixth inning, Matthew Boyd struck out 13 to tie a career high and the Tigers topped the White Sox 11-5. Miguel Cabrera added a 454-foot solo shot and doubled, and Jeimer Candelario also homered. John Hicks and Nicholas Castellanos each had two RBIs as Detroit rebounded after being swept in a doubleheader Wednesday to win for just the second time in its last 13 games. A woman in the first row just beyond the White Sox dugout on the third base side was struck by a foul liner off the bat of Detroit’s Victor Reyes in the eighth inning. She was treated by stadium personnel at her seat, and a team spokesman said she wasn’t seriously injured. Last month, the White Sox announced they would become the first team in the majors to extend protective netting beyond the dugout to the foul poles before the end of the season.

■ Extra innings: Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe was placed on the 10-day injured list with a bruised right shin and will not play in next week’s All-Star Game. Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres was named to replace Lowe, who was added to the AL All-Star team Wednesday . ... The Phillies have placed reliever Juan Nicasio on the 10-day injured list with a strained left groin . ... The Tigers placed outfielder JaCoby Jones on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain and recalled outfielder Victor Reyes from Triple-A Toledo.
