The cutest babysitters
Summer: when the kids are out of school and you’re out of patience. But one thing often buys a moment of their silent attention: animals. Fortunately, there are a couple options this week for getting them occupied with fuzzy (and not so fuzzy) friends.
The clapping at things that roll over (2 p.m. Monday, Tavares Civic Center, 100 E. Caroline St., free, 352-742-6204, tavares.org). Traditional European harlequins Yanina and Sergey have trained a fleet of pups to jump through hoops, climb up ladders and leap straight into the hearts of children.
Following that is everyone’s favorite dolphin with a heart of gold and the voice of a kookaburra. The Enzian is showing the 1996 movie version of starring Elijah Wood and likely your most recent memory of Paul Hogan (3 p.m. Tuesday, Enzian Theater, 1300 S. Orlando Ave. in Maitland, free, 407-629-0054, enzian.org).
“Flipper” is part of the Enzian’s KidFest, wherein they show kid-friendly matinees for free throughout the summer. So keep an eye on that website for upcoming dates and plan to get a couple hours of peace.
