Hard Rock hotel rooms go fast for grand opening

- By David Lyons

Among the rooms left for the grand opening of the Seminole Hard Rock’s guitar hotel: a Deluxe King Room for $2,498 during a mandatory two-night stay.

It didn’t take long for patrons to snap up sumptuous suites for the Oct. 24 unveiling. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood started taking reservations late Wednesday morning. Booking activity went live at hardrockholly.com.

The Hard Rock says the rates will vary based on availability and seasonality.

“We go live today and we’ll see what the demand is,” James Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International, said in an interview. He said there is no special pricing to mark the occasion.

No incentives appeared to be needed. The resort’s website showed most, if not all, of the rooms sold out for the opening and for the nights immediately thereafter.

The Hard Rock is commanding premium prices not only for the guitar hotel, but for the adjacent new oasis tower overlooking a lagoon. There, a 640-square-foot, nonsmoking Deluxe King suite is available for $2,418 for a mandatory two-night stay.

But with the passage of several days and nights after the grand opening, the prices do taper off, according to the website. On Halloween night, a Friday, for example, a 1,090-square-foot Platinum Suite in the guitar hotel with skyline views can be had for $1,019. Other suites that night range from $429 to $729. In November and early December, prices trend lower.

The hotel website was showing no availability at the guitar or oasis towers for the weekend of the NFL’s Super Bowl LIV, which is scheduled at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens in early February 2020. Many South Florida hotels are already sold out for the event.

Hard Rock is putting the finishing touches on a $1.5 billion expansion in Hollywood that includes the 450-foot guitar tower, designed to resemble back-to-back guitars, complete with guitar faces and brightly lit strings.

The adjacent oasis tower rises seven stories and overlooks a new pool lagoon and private pool area. Hard Rock also built a 6,500-seat theater and an array of new retail stores and restaurants.

The guitar hotel adds 638 rooms to the Hard Rock complex. The oasis tower adds another 168, pushing the total for all three facilities including the original Hard Rock hotel in Hollywood to more than 1,300.

Earlier this week, Hard Rock International learned that its hotels — including the Hollywood resort — were rated No. 1 in customer satisfaction among “upper upscale” hotels by J.D. Power, the marketing information services firm.

“We’re obviously very happy and excited to be given this,” Allen said. He noted there are 82 hotel companies in the classification led by Hard Rock.
