Magic, Humphries reportedly agree to Exhibit 10 contract

The Orlando Magic and freeagent center Isaac Humphries reportedly have reached an agreement for an Exhibit 10 contract.

The deal was first reported Wednesday by Olgun Uluc of FoxSports Australia. Humphries, who played alongside former Magic guard Isaiah Briscoe during two seasons at Kentucky, is a native of Australia.

Humphries became an unrestricted free agent this offseason when the Atlanta Hawks did not extend him a qualifying offer. The 7-foot Humphries spent most of last season with the Erie BayHawks, the G League affiliate of the Hawks. In 46 games, Humphries averaged 11.3 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from 3-point range.

Humphries signed with the Hawks in April and appeared in five games last season. He competed for the Los Angeles Clippers during last month’s NBA Summer League 2019 in Las Vegas.

Humphries would be the Magic’s first Exhibit 10 contract.

The Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year deal worth the league minimum that guarantees a player will receive a camp invitation. It allows NBA teams to convert a player’s deal into a two-way contract at the start of the regular season, but also provides bonuses if a player signs with a G League affiliate. Those bonuses can be worth anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000, depending on how much time a player spends on the G League affiliate roster.

The Magic already have filled their two-way contracts via deals with point guard Josh Magette and center Amile Jefferson, so Humphries will have to make the team out of training camp or be waived.

The Magic have three centers signed for next season in all-star Nikola Vucevic, Mo Bamba and Khem Birch.

If Humphries does not make the team and signs with the Magic’s G League affiliate in Lakeland, he would earn a $50,000 bonus if he remains on the roster for 60 days.

Only NBA teams with a G League affiliate can sign a player to an Exhibit 10 deal. Former UCF center Tacko Fall signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Boston Celtics. The team filled their two-way contract slots by signing Max Strus and Tremont Waters, so Fall will have to make the Celtics out of training camp or be waived.
