UCF sells out football season ticket allotment for 2019 season

- By Matt Murschel

For the first time in school history, UCF has sold out its entire allotment of season tickets for the 2019 football season.

The school made if official on Monday, stating fans interested in attending any of the six home games will have to check on the availability of single-game tickets as well as any tickets returned from the visiting team allotments.

“The fact that our season-ticket allotment is gone before the start of a season is a first for UCF, and it absolutely speaks to both the success of the football program and how our alumni and community have embraced Orlando’s Hometown Team,” UCF athletics director Danny White said in a statement.

UCF is coming off a stretch in which the football program won 25 of its last 26 games, including back-to-back American Athletic Conference championships and consecutive appearances in College Football Playoff New Year’s Six Access Bowl games.

The Knights were picked as favorites to win another conference title by the media during the AAC football media event in July, with the team receiving a No. 17 ranking in the latest preseason USA Today coaches’ poll.

The demand for tickets has forced the athletics department to create a waiting list for future season tickets, another first for the school. The issue of ticket demands has even re-ignited the discussion of possibly expanding Spectrum Stadium from its current 44,206 capacity.

“We’re confident that capacity crowds will become routine at Spectrum Stadium, and that suggests we need to be forward-thinking in terms of assessing what the options are to expand,” White added. “The topic of expansion isn’t new, but we feel some urgency to figure this out because of the growing demand in the community and, most importantly, with our students. We unfortunately had to turn away thousands of students at the majority of our games last year and we expect that number to grow this season. A 12,000-seat student section is just not big enough for the largest undergraduate enrollment in America.”

UCF averaged 44,018 spectators for its eight contests last season, tying the previous single-season average high from the team’s inaugural season at Spectrum Stadium in 2007.
