DeLand prevails; Seminole clinches title

Rennie got things started early in the contest. He scored a 1-yard touchdown on Bishop Moore’s opening drive. The Hornets’ special teams and defense took over from there. Brazil scored his first touchdown after a blocked kick, giving Bishop Moore a 14-0 lead.

Rennie would later add a 22-yard score and an 18-yard touchdown during the firsthalf outburst by the Hornets.

Bishop Moore also recovered two pooch kicks in the first half and turned them into 14 points. It also recovered a fumble and picked off a pass and turned those two opportunit­ies into points.

Eustis (1-7, 0-4) struggled to move the ball on offense. The Panthers recorded just three first downs in the first half before quarterbac­k Wes Elliott found wide receiver Deandre James for a 49-yard score on the final play of the first half.

The Hornets have won 26 consecutiv­e games against Lake County public schools since losing to Leesburg 32-28 in 2009. They play at Mount Dora (2-6, 1-3) next week. Florida high school record for consecutiv­e regular-season football wins with a 21-0 home win against state-ranked Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna on Friday night.

That was Vero’s 60th consecutiv­e victory, matching a record set by Lakeland from 1995 through 2001. The Indians are No. 4 in the 8A state poll.

In other games: No. 4 Kissimmee Osceola (7-1) won 13-0 at Bradenton Manatee (4-5). The Kowboys are ranked No. 10 in the 8A state poll.

■ Brandon Adams made a game-winning field goal for Hagerty (4-4, 1-3) in a 31-28 overtime victory over Orlando University (1-7, 0-4). University had possession first in OT but fumbled the ball away on first down.

■ Class 7A, District 4 frontrunne­r Winter Springs (4-4) won 40-15 vs. visiting Lecanto (2-7) in a non-district game.

■ Lake Howell (5-3), looking for its first above-.500 season since 1996, won 36-14 against visiting Deltona. The Silver Hawks have two more chances to get a sixth regular-season win with games to go against Lyman and Orange City University.

■ Orlando Christian Prep (6-1) scored a touchdown in the final minute to win 14-13 against Faith Christian (4-4).

■ The First Academy (3-4) continued its push for a 3A playoff berth with a 38-17 win at Windermere Prep (2-6).

■ No. 15 Lake Minneola (5-3) lost 50-34 at home to Ocala Vanguard (5-2) in non-district play. The Hawks will vie for the 6A, District 5 championsh­ip at home against Springstea­d (8-0) next week.

■ Second-year Tohopekali­ga (4-4) won 28-7 at home against Harmony (2-6).

■ Trinity Prep (4-5) won 63-0 at South Daytona Warner Christian (2-5).

■ Cornerston­e Charter won 21-20 in four overtimes at Halifax Academy of Daytona Beach on Thursday night. Both teams scored TDs in the final OT session and the Ducks won on a successful extra point.
