Jackets’ penalty shot wins it in OT

Gustav Nyquist scored on a penalty shot 1:57 into overtime as the Blue Jackets beat the Maple Leafs 4-3 on Monday night in Toronto.

Nyquist was hooked by Mitch Marner at the end of a long shift for the Maple Leafs. Nyquist then beat Frederik Andersen under the glove for his second goal of the season.

Riley Nash, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Alexander Wennberg scored in regulation for the Jackets, and Nick Foligno had two assists. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 28 shots.

Auston Matthews had a goal and an assist, and William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen scored for the Leafs. Andreas Johnsson and Jake Muzzin each had two assists, and Andersen finished with 34 saves.

Blues 3, Avalanche 1: Vladimir Tarasenko had a goal and two assists as the Blues ended the Avalanche’s eight-game point streak.

The loss means the Avalanche (7-1-1), which lost Mikko Rantanen in the second period to a lowerbody injury, became the last team in the NHL to lose in regulation this season.

Brayden Schenn and David Perron scored and Jordan Binnington made 16 saves for the Blues (4-2-3), who ended a fourgame winless streak.

Nathan MacKinnon scored for the Avalanche to extend his seasonopen­ing point streak to nine games (five goals, seven assists). Philipp Grubauer made 22 saves.

Flyers 6, Golden Knights 2: Michael Raffl had two goals and an assist and the Flyers used a 4-0 second period to end a four-game losing streak.

Kevin Hayes, Matt Niskanen, Oskar Lindblom and Raffl gave the Flyers a 5-0 edge after two. Brian Elliott stopped 33 of 35 shots.

One-timers: Newly signed Brian Boyle will debut Tuesday when the Panthers host the Penguins . ... Injured forwards Evgeni Malkin and Alex Galchenyuk will not travel with the Penguins on their three-game trip . ... The Predators signed their first-round pick this year, 18-year-old center Philip Tomasino, to a three-year entry-level contract.
