Day’Ron Sharpe, a 6-10 center who moved from North Carolina to play as a senior for Montverde, will return to his home state for college. He signed as expected with UNC.

It’s the same story for Zeb Jackson, a 6-2 guard, who left his Michigan high school to play this year for the Eagles. He signed Wednesday with Michigan.

Scottie Barnes, a 6-8 small forward who transferred from University School in South Florida to Montverde this year, signed with FSU.

Another Montverde standout, 6-5 Moses Moody, has verbally committed to Arkansas.

The website 247Sports rates Cunningham No. 2, Barnes No. 9, Sharpe No. 17, Moody No. 42 and Jackson No. 62 among senior prospects.

Volleyball All-Americans: East Ridge senior Naomi Cabello, a stellar 6-1 setter, signed with Texas. She plans to graduate early and start college in January.

But before that Cabello is scheduled to participate Dec. 31 in the Under Armour All-America girls volleyball match close to home. That showcase, previously played in conjunction with the NCAA Final Four, will be held this year at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex two days before the Under Armour football All-American game at Camping World Stadium.

A second area player, Florida signee Elli McKissock of The First Academy, joins Cabello as one of the 25 first-team senior All-Americans who are invited to participate in the UA game. The third Florida player chosen was Annie Cate Fitzpatrick of Ocala Trinity Catholic.

Lake Highland Prep setter Cierra Jenkins was picked to the third team. She signed with Brown of the Ivy League.

The fourth team includes Hagerty teammates Sydney Conley (FSU) and Audrey Douglas (Auburn), Lauren Gips (Rice) of Lake Highland and Windermere High School’s Taylor Head (Arkansas).

Jenkins, Gips, Conley and Douglas all still have one more big high school match to play — with state championships on the line.

Jenkins and Gips play their final match for Lake Highland Prep (25-2) at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Alachua Santa Fe (21-9) in the state Class 4A final at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.

Conley and Douglas suit up for Hagerty (25-6) once more to play Palm Beach Gardens (21-6) for the 7A championship at 4 p.m.
