Upon further review, Knights fall short

-

you have that many lines out there on the court, it’s easy to kind of misjudge one for another. But that’s just part of the game.”

UCF had plenty of chances — many more so than Penn — to seal the win prior to Green’s jumper, but they couldn’t take advantage often enough. The Knights forced nine more turnovers than the Quakers and held a 22-3 advantage in offensive rebounding. Those extra possessions led to 27 more shot attempts for the Knights. However, they ended the game shooting just 32.4% from the floor.

The Quakers offset those additional chances by hitting 11 3-pointers for a third consecutive game. Meanwhile, the Knights were just 4-for-15 from deep. Maybe nothing more than a few toes kept them from securing that all-important fifth trey.

Dawkins took solace in the fact that his team was able to keep the game close down to the final possession despite shooting such a low rate.

“To still be in a game like that and make it a one-point game says a lot about our kids’ character,” he said.

Junior forward Collin Smith and senior guard Dazon Ingram each recorded a double-double. Smith registered 22 points and 12 rebounds while Ingram put up 17 and 13, respectively. Penn forward A.J. Brodeur led all scorers with 23 points.

Dawkins said Smith was “terrific” en route to his fourth double-double as a Knight. The coach also complimented Ingram for his style of play Thursday night.

“I liked the fact that he was aggressive,” Dawkins said of his point guard. “He was attacking the basket, making plays in the paint. He was also active on the boards there, the offensive and defensive boards. We need that from him.”
