The Gap on Park Avenue in Winter Park to close Jan. 26

-

The Gap on Park Avenue will close Jan. 26, the brand confirmed, shuttering a corner tenant of Winter Park’s upscale dining and shopping main street.

The closure comes after the company announced in February that it would shut down about 230 stores over the next two years. The Winter Park location is the third in Florida selected to close since then, according to a list on Gap’s website.

Gap also has locations at Mall at Millenia, Florida Mall, Altamonte Mall and at two outlets in Orlando. Gap had said closures would only affect specialty stores, excluding outlet and factory locations. A company spokesperson said no other Orlando closures have been publicized.

The latest announcement followed similar decisions by the brand to downsize its U.S. footprint, including in 2015 when Gap said it would close 175 locations and in 2017 when the company announced it would pare back another 200.

In February, Gap also announced it would split from Old Navy. acclaimed chef John Tesar is set to replace chef Norman Van Aken’s restaurant at Orlando’s Ritz-Carlton.

Knife & Spoon is expected to open in spring in an 8,000-square-foot space at the hotel, the Ritz-Carlton at Grande Lakes announced. It will have 235 seats and be open for dinner only.

Van Aken’s restaurant closed earlier this year after 16 years and had plans to open at a different site. Van Aken was a winner of the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chefs in America” award in 1997, among other accolades. He left Mount Dora’s 1921 restaurant in 2018.

Tesar is a four-time semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef: Southwest” recognition. His restaurants include the Knife steakhouse in Dallas.

“Knife & Spoon celebrates the bounty of Florida on land and at sea, combining the cutting-edge meat and seafood cookery of Chef Tesar,” hotel spokeswoman Alissa Perez wrote in an email.

Kyoto Sushi & Grill is set to open in Orlando’s Colonial Plaza next year.

The restaurant is planned for a 2,123-square-foot space in the summer. The plaza is at Colonial Drive and Bumby Avenue and is home to national retailers including Ross, Hobby Lobby, Marshalls and Petco.

This is set to be the fifth Kyoto Sushi & Grill restaurant, with locations around Orlando and Oviedo.

Its menu includes sushi, hibachi grill dishes and bento boxes featuring items like beef teriyaki and sweet sesame chicken.

The Graffiti Junktion on Church Street in downtown Orlando has shut its doors.
