Bowl plan for Davis unclear
choosing to skip bowl games to avoid the risk of injury is a relatively new one that began a few years ago with players such as Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette sitting out their games.
“Ten years ago, that didn’t happen,” Heupel said. “I think guys are trying to protect themselves in some respect.
“I think bowl games are a great opportunity. Bowls, whenever they started, in large respect just dealt with giving kids an opportunity to experience a different culture, a different place and a different experience. I still think that’s a huge part of the bowl season: a great opportunity to spend more time with your teammates and have a growing experience.”
The NFL combine is set to begin Feb. 27, with the draft set for April 23-25.
Senior linebacker Nate Evans is looking forward to celebrating one more victory with his teammates before turning his attention to a possible pro career. But he gets why some players are bypassing their final college game.
“I definitely understand why some guys might sit out,” said Evans, who leads the team with 100 tackles. “Some may have different personal reasons [than] others, but I completely understand. I can’t knock them.
“Of course, they have a future to prepare for, but I just want to play this game with my brothers. I came in and started something, and I just want to finish strong.
“It’s been all good vibes, good memories with these guys, and I just want to finish strong and go out with another win and celebrate.”
