Mississippi QB commits to play for ’Noles in ’21
FSU picked up a commitment from 2021 quarterback Luke Altmyer on Monday, continuing coach Mike Norvell’s trend of landing quarterbacks.
Altmyer, a three-star recruit, is the third quarterback to pledge to the Seminoles since Norvell became head coach in December.
Chubba Purdy and Tate Rodemaker signed during the early signing period in December.
Altmyer, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound signal-caller, plays at Starkville High in Mississippi. 247Sports’ Composite Rankings have him as the No. 29 pro-style quarterback in the 2021 cycle.
“Excited to be a SEMINOLE,” Altmyer posted on Twitter when he committed on Monday morning.
Norvell posted a message on Twitter about a big recruiting win, alluding to Altmyer’s decision without violating NCAA rules that prevent coaches from referring to commitments by name on social media.
“Great day to be a Florida State Seminole,” Norvell posted. “#NoleFamily has a Big Time #PlayMaker coming!! Fired up for the Future!”
Altmyer visited Tallahassee on Jan. 25 during FSU’s junior day. He shows tools that could make him a successful quarterback at the college level.
Altmyer showcases a good arm with good ball placement and can throw on the run with accuracy. He had a productive junior season at Starkville last season, throwing for 3,093 yards with 37 touchdowns and five interceptions. Altmyer threw for 1,952 yards and 19 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018.
The 2020 national signing day is on Wednesday. The Seminoles signed 17 players in the early signing period in December. FSU’s 2020 recruiting class ranks 20th in the country and fourth in the ACC, according to 247Sports.com.
