New affordable senior living community announced for Sanford
An Altamonte Springs developer announced plans Monday to build a much-needed 68-unit senior-living community in Sanford that will house low-income residents 55 and older.
Wendover Housing Partners said it will break ground on the $15.9 million project — Norton Commons — as early as this month. Rents are expected to start at $708 a month for onebedroom units and $837 a month for two-bedroom units.
Wendover recently closed on a $750,000 deal for 4.3 acres for the new community, located at 2580 Ridgewood Ave., just south of H.E. Thomas Jr. Parkway.
Financing for the project includes $1.36 million in low-income housing tax credits from the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
“Affordable housing continues to be a big challenge for many people and families in Central Florida,” said Jonathan Wolf, Wendover’s president and founder. “We’re proud to be providing housing options that meet the need of several unique demographics” — including formerly homeless residents.
Last summer, the company began construction of Warley Park, a $20 million, 81-unit apartment complex that will be home to 41 chronically homeless individuals and 40 homeless families with on-site support services — including counseling, case workers and educational programs. That project is set to open in April.
