Woods headlines next World Golf Hall class

Already among the greatest on the golf course, Tiger Woods will join them in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Woods was elected Wednesday to be part of the 2021 induction class, a decision with as much suspense as a tap-in. Woods shares the PGA Tour record with 82 career victories, and his 15 majors are second only to Jack Nicklaus. He has 11 other victories in tours around the world, including Europe, Japan, Asia and Australia.

Colleges: Eric Dickerson from SMU, Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch from Nebraska and the late Steve McNair from Alcorn State are among 17 players selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame . ... Three former student-athletes who say they were sexually abused by a track coach sued the NCAA, its board of governors and the coach, alleging the governing body doesn’t do enough to protect NCAA athletes. Erin Aldrich, Londa Bevins and Jessica Johnson are seeking class action status for the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose, Calif. The women say they were molested by John Rembao while he worked at Texas and Arizona.

Horse racing: War Emblem, the 2002 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, died at age 21. Officials said the cause of death was believed to be a paddock accident, but exact details weren’t known. A necropsy was pending.

NFL: The deadline for applying franchise and transition tags to free agents has been moved from Thursday to Monday by the league and players’ union. With the NFL Players Associatio­n’s members still voting on a new labor agreement the owners already have approved — that deadline was extended by two days to 11:59 p.m. EDT on Saturday — leaving the last time to use the tags at Thursday made little sense. By moving it, both sides hope to know whether they are operating under a new agreement or the current deal . ... Ravens G Marshal Yanda announced his retirement after 13 seasons . ... The Dolphins will release two-time Pro Bowl S Reshad Jones next Wednesday after 10 seasons with the team.

Soccer: Midfielder Benny Feilhaber retired after a career that included playing for the U.S. at the 2010 World Cup and nine years in MLS.
