An Orange County reserve deputy sheriff was fired Monday morning after his domestic violence arrest over the weekend, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Reserve Deputy Adam Waldo was arrested Saturday after a woman accused him of threatening to kill her, her children and other family members, according to his arrest warrant.

Waldo denied the allegations against him in an interview with deputies.

The woman said they were arguing in his stopped vehicle when Waldo made the threats. She told deputies that he was “grabbing the center console with his right hand and began to open” it, the report said. She was able to get out of his vehicle and drive away in her own car.

The woman told deputies that Waldo stored his handgun in the center console, and a search warrant later confirmed that Waldo had a loaded 9mm handgun in the compartment, the report said. The gun was secured by deputies as evidence in the case.

The woman said this was not the first time Waldo threatened her life. She and another witness told deputies he had mouthed “you’re dead” to her about a week prior, the report said.

The Orlando Sentinel does not identify victims of domestic violence. Waldo was not on duty at the time of his arrest.

Sheriff John Mina fired Waldo Monday morning saying that he has “a zero tolerance policy toward domestic violence.”

“As law enforcement officers, we are committed to fighting the scourge of domestic violence in our community,” Sheriff John Mina wrote in a statement Monday. “We hold all of our deputies — both fulltime and reserve — to the highest ethical standards whether they are on duty or off duty.”

Waldo served as a reserve deputy since 2008, working part-time and only able to perform law enforcement duties under the supervision of a fully certified deputy, records show.
