Former area basketball standouts did plenty of standing out in college game

The coronaviru­s pandemic forced an early end to the NCAA men’s basketball season and March Madness. But not before a number of former area high schools players put up impressive performanc­es.

Here is our Orlando area “All-America” lists for the 2019-20 season. We have a top five of players who graduated from traditiona­l high school programs that compete within FHSAA districts; and a second group from the local academy programs that play national schedules: Montverde Academy and West Oaks.

Players are listed with their college team, high school team, height and year in school:

2.1 assists and Big Eastleadin­g 1.9 steals for Red Storm (17-15). Declared for NBA Draft on March 28.

Andrew Nembhard, Florida, Montverde Academy, 6-5, Soph.

Has started 67 straight games since arriving at UF. Averaged 11.2 points, team-high 5.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds while leading SEC with 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. Filip Petrusev, Gonzaga, Montverde Academy, 6-11, Soph.

First underclass­man to be West Coast Conference Player of the Year since 1981 was leading scorer (17.5) and rebounder (7.9) for Zags (31-2). Shot 56.2% from the field.

Montverde Academy, 6-5, Sr.

Alum of MVA’s Center for Basketball Developmen­t (CBD) program averaged 10.8 points, shot 42.9% from 3-point range. Davonta Jordan, Buffalo, Montverde Academy, 6-2, Sr.

Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists for Bulls (20-12).

Denzel Mahoney, Creighton, Hagerty, 6-5, Jr.

Averaged 12.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 22.5 minutes per game for a 24-7 BlueJays team ranked No. 7 in the final AP poll. Richardson Maitre, FAU, West Oaks Academy, 6-3, Jr.

Started every game and averaged 9.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for Owls (17-15). Season-high 21 points in final game.

Sandro Mamukelash­vili, Seton Hall, Montverde Academy, 6-11, Jr.

Big East All-Academic team recipient averaged 11.9 points and 6.0 rebounds. Declared for NBA Draft.

Rob Perry, Stetson, Oak Ridge, 6-3, Fr.

Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year led Hatters (16-17) at 15.1 points per game while topping league in 3-point shot percentage (42.6%). Averaged 5.1 rebounds.

Jason Preston, Ohio U., Boone, 6-4, Soph.

Averaged 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds while ranking No. 4 nationally with 7.4 assists per game. Made Mid-American all-conference second team. Shot 40.7% on 3-point tries.

Ronald Segu, Buffalo, Orlando Christian Prep, 6-0, Soph.

Sixth Man of the Year in the Mid-American Conference averaged 8.1 points for the Bulls (20-12). He scored 20 in his team’s final game of the season.

Greg Summers, Navy, The First Academy, 6-3, Soph.

Started every game and averaged 9.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Led Midshipmen (14-16) in boards at 6-foot-3.

Dante Treacy, Robert Morris, CFCA, 6-0, Soph.

MVP of the Northeast Conference Tournament scored 18 points in 77-67 win vs. St. Francis in title game. Averaged 8.7 points, 4.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals for Colonels (20-14).
