Stricklin recovered, but virus has AD’s attention
Planning around COVID-19 for fall sports huge challenge
UF athletic director Scott Stricklin knows firsthand the challenge posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Stricklin recently tested positive himself for COVID-19, experiencing “mild symptoms” before making a relatively quick recovery.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Stricklin said he had followed safe practices to avoid contracting the illness caused by the novel coronavirus that has set the nation into a tailspin and put college athletics in serious jeopardy.
Yet the 50-year-old found out just how contagious the virus is at a time when he and other top decision-makers in college athletics look to salvage the fall sports season without putting young athletes in harm’s way.
“I thought I was being careful, but obviously this is a highly transmittable disease,” Stricklin said. “So I do think it speaks to the importance of all of us doing our part and wearing the masks and physical distancing and all that stuff. Hopefully we can help keep others safe during this process by doing our part.”
