Disney World animals will be subjects of new TV show

- By Dewayne Bevil

The care and feeding of Walt Disney World’s animal population will be the focus of a new television series called “The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.” The shows will come from National Geographic, and they will be available this fall on Disney Plus, the streaming platform that debuted last year.

“We’re so excited that soon, you’ll get a peek behind-the-scenes as the stories of these animal-care experts and the animals they care for come to life,” said Dr. Mark Penning, Disney’s vice president for animals, science and environment, in a post on the official Disney Parks Blog.

The new series will give viewers a look at the daily operation of the animalcare and veterinary facilities — and the human workers — at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park and The Seas with Nemo & Friends attraction at Epcot.

Film crews reportedly began work at the theme parks earlier this year.

Along with Disney movies, animation and TV shows, Disney Plus has parks-related content, including a series called “The Imagineering Story,” the “One Day at Disney” docuseries, and, most recently, a vintage special called “The Pre-Opening Report From Disneyland.” The platform also features many National Geographic productions.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to lions, tigers, gorillas, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, meerkats, zebras, flamingos and more.
