FAU gets more bad news on scheduling
Another domino that will affect FAU’s 2020 college football season fell Monday.
Old Dominion — which is a part of Conference USA with FAU — announced that it’s canceling the fall athletic season due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The decision comes amidst a general wave of uncertainty for the 2020 college football season, with the Mid-American Conference becoming the first FBS conference to postpone its entire fall sports season on Saturday and a Monday Detroit Free Press report that the Big Ten voted to cancel the 2020 college football season.
FAU was scheduled to play Old Dominion on Nov. 21 at FAU Stadium in its last conference home game.
The Owls have already seen two of their non-conference games — their previously scheduled seasonopener at Minnesota on Sept. 3 and second game of the year against Stony Brook scheduled for Sept. 12— canceled due to other conferences changing their members’ school schedules.
C-USA announced its return-to-play scheduling format for the 2020 football season last Friday, keeping the eight-game conference slate for each team while allowing schools to play up to four non-conference games. CUSA presidents are scheduled to meet later this week, according to The Athletic.
FAU started its fall camp last Wednesday and practiced Morning morning. The Owls are scheduled to kick off the 2020 season against Georgia Southern on Sept. 19 in Statesboro, Ga.
