■ Braves: OF Nick Markakis was placed on the 10-day IL after potentiall­y being exposed to COVID-19. Markakis initially opted out of the shortened season because of concerns about the coronaviru­s. A few games into the season, the 36-year-old changed his mind and decided to play. He rejoined the Braves a couple of weeks ago and hit .353 with six RBIs and a walk-off HR in his first 11 games. The Braves didn’t provide details of how Markakis may have been exposed to the virus.

■ Rangers, Padres: Rangers manager Chris Woodward served a one-game suspension during Tuesday’s 6-4 home loss to the Padres a day after Rangers reliever Ian Gibaut threw behind Padres hitter Manny Machado following a grand slam. Gibaut was suspended by MLB for three games, but appealed the suspension and pitched an inning Tuesday. He came in Monday night in the eighth after Padres slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a grand slam on a 3-0 pitch off Juan Nicasio with the Padres leading by seven runs in a game it eventually won 14-4. Woodward immediatel­y displayed his displeasur­e with what he perceived as a violation of an unwritten rule of baseball. After the game, the skipper said the pitch got away from Gibaut. Padres manager Jayce Tingler said after the game that Tatis missed the take sign from third-base coach Glenn Hoffman. Tatis said he wasn’t aware of such a practice.

■ Reds, Royals: The game between Reds and Royals scheduled will be played as part of a doublehead­er Wednesday so that the visiting Reds can do additional testing after a player tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. Players, coaches and other members of the Reds organizati­on were retested for the coronaviru­s Saturday and Sunday after one player was sidelined because of a positive result. The final two games of a series against the Pirates in Cincinnati were postponed.

■ Indians: Manager Terry Francona will miss the Indians’ three-game road series with the Pirates, which began Tuesday night. Indians GM Mike Chernoff said Francona will have a “scheduled procedure” to address a gastrointe­stinal issue. Francona also sat out seven games from Aug. 3-9 because of the ailment. The Indians are hopeful Francona will be back in the dugout Friday.

■ Extra innings: Cubs 3B/ OF Kris Bryant will miss at least the next couple of days after getting an injection in his left wrist to manage an injury that has bothered him for about a week . ... Corey Seager singled home Austin Barnes with the tiebreakin­g run in the eighth and the Dodgers beat the visiting Mariners 2-1 for their seventh victory in a row. Barnes scored both runs for the Dodgers, who improved to an NLbest 18-7 and sent the Mariners to their seventh straight loss . ... Nick Ahmed homered and had five RBIs, Luke Weaver pitched five effective innings and the host Diamondbac­ks stretched their winning streak to six games with a 10-1 win over the A’s.
