Disney pushes back reopening of Polynesian to next summer
Walt Disney World has pushed back the reopening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to summer 2021. The hotel, along with others on Disney property, has been closed since mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Disney says it will take the time to make refurbishments in the resort’s Great Ceremonial House as well as guest rooms.
A Disney World spokeswoman on Monday said changes to the rooms will include a move to a Pacific Ocean-inspired color palette as well as details, patterns and textures from Disney’s “Moana,” an animated film that takes place partly on the Polynesian island of Motunui.
Disney Vacation Club units at the Polynesian, including the onwater bungalows and villas, will remain open.
The Polynesian opened with Walt Disney World in 1971. It’s located on the Seven Seas Lagoon and on the monorail line that serves Magic Kingdom theme park. It is categorized as a “deluxe” Disney hotel.
The Poly’s reopening has been changed a couple of times since the phased reopening of Walt Disney World resorts began in July.
Current dates for additional Disney resort reopenings include
the Grand Floridian on Sept. 21, Coronado Springs on Oct. 14 and Art of Animation on Nov. 1. Not all resorts have an announced reopening date, and these dates could change, Disney says.
Among the Disney World resorts now open are Caribbean Beach, Contemporary, Pop Century, Yacht Club and Fort Wilderness. Multiple DVC properties, including the new Riviera Resort and Bay Lake Tower, located at
