We have music news for children and adults, from Goldilocks to showtunes to a celebration of Mexico — plus, check out a special art exhibit on view for a limited time.
Symphony Storytime: The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra opens its Symphony Storytime Series with performances Saturday and Sunday. Designed for children ages 3-7, the series uses narration, hand-drawn illustrations and the Philharmonic musicians to bring classic stories to life.
This week’s offering is “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” with shows at10 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.Sunday.
Performances take place outdoors at the Plaza Live, 425 N. Bumby Ave. in Orlando. Sanitized and physically distanced chairs will be provided; do not bring your own seating.
Tickets are $10, and children age 2 or younger are admitted free. The Philharmonic points out that the best available seats can be found at the 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday shows. For more information, go to orlandophil.org/calendar.
Online fiesta: Casa de Mexico will present its annual celebration of Mexican Independence Sept. 16, but this year the cultural performances move online. Co-hosted with the Consulate of Mexico in Orlando, the celebration will
feature artists such as Laura Reyes, the Ballet Mexico Folklorico, the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico and the Mariachi Nuevo Guadalajara.

In addition, note that Orlando landmarks such as the Lake Eola Fountain, Orange County Convention Center and The Wheel at Icon Park will be illuminated in the green, white and red colors of the Mexican flag as a salute.
Broadway cabaret: “Impossible Dream: The Best of Broadway’s Leading Men” is the next online cabaret from Winter Park Playhouse. Shawn Kilgore will perform songs from classics such as “Fiddler on the Roof,” “South Pacific,” “Les Miserables” and “Man of La Mancha,” accompanied by Christopher Leavy on piano.
Kilgore performs around the country, but Playhouse fans know him from “The Fantasticks,” “Nunsense Amen!,” “Baby,” “Heartbeats” and most recently “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”
Kilgore’s cabaret will be recorded this month and available to watch from 11 a.m. Sept. 25 until 11 a.m. Sept. 28. To receive the link and password, a donation of $20 per person is required. Call 407-645-0145 or go to winterparkplayhouse.org.
Art and autism: The Lake County Museum of Art is displaying the work of a group of young artists on the autism spectrum. The exhibit features dozens of original drawings, photography and 3D art by nine artists ranging in age from 7 to 26.
The artists all are involved with the University of Central Florida’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, which serves more than 15,300 Central Floridians.
The exhibition, titled “Spectral Evidence,” runs through Sept. 26 at the museum, 213 W. Ruby St. in Tavares. Museum hours are noon-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, and admission is free. Masks are required, and physical distancing will be practiced. For more information, go to lakeartmuseum.com.
