Disney: One water park will reopen in March

- By Dewayne Bevil

Walt Disney World is planning to reopen one of its closed water parks next spring, according to the resort’s website. Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon have been closed since midMarch in reaction to the coronavirus pandemic, despite Disney World’s theme parks becoming available again, at a reduced capacity, in July.

The site does not specify which of its water parks is set for a spring reopening in 2021 or when its other water attraction will rejoin

Disney World’s lineup.

“Pending government approvals, we currently plan to reopen one of the two Disney water parks on March 7, 2021,” the site says.

And that date could change, Disney notes.

Some Platinum Plus-level annual passholders received emails on Thursday that said they would be receiving prorated refunds because of the ongoing closures of its water parks. Those transactions should be completed by late October or early November,

the email said. Passholders on the monthly payment program will get a lump sum as well, and their monthly payments will not change, it said.

If the water parks and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex reopen before a pass expires, the passholder still will be able to visit Disney says. The Platinum Plus pass continues to include admission to Disney’s Oak Trail golf course, the email said.

Both the email and the site say Platinum Plus renewals are not currently available, but there will be

other options come up.

Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay water park and Aquatica, SeaWorld Orlando’s water park, reopened in June at the same time as those resorts’ theme parks. Volcano Bay recently switched to an operating schedule where it is closed two days a week.
