A Clermont man crashed his truck into the home of his father-in-law Wednesday night before fatally shooting him and then turning the gun on himself, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeffrey Storey, 39, drove his white pickup truck into his wife’s parents’ home on Windchime Circle near the south side of Lake Minnehaha late Wednesday, according to an LCSO incident report. Storey then confronted his father-inlaw, 64-year-old Norman Schober, and shot him, the report said.

Storey’s wife and their infant daughter were staying in the home at the time.

Storey lived 10 minutes away on the north side of Lake Minnehaha.

Deputies arrived at the home at 7:18 p.m. and found Storey’s body on the front lawn with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right side of his face and an automatic weapon lying across his stomach, the report said.

After a perimeter sweep, deputies met Schober’s wife at the door, who screamed “help him,” referring to her husband. Inside the kitchen, deputies found Schober lying on the floor unresponsive and without a pulse. They identified an injury to his lower left leg and what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his abdomen in the area of his right rib cage.

A witness told deputies they saw the truck drive into the home. The witness approached the home, thinking the driver was inebriated, but soon after heard six to seven gunshots.

Storey ’s wife and daughter escaped the home during the incident from a north-facing window and fled on foot. A deputy found the two uninjured and picked them up.

LCSO did not reveal any details as to why the shooting took place.

However, Lake County court records show the wife filed to divorce Storey on Sept 4 and also sought a restraining order against him on Aug. 28, alleging domestic abuse.
