Lovato, Ehrich call off engagement

- Tribune news services

Singer-actors Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich have called off their engagement after two months.

Lovato and her former fiance have parted ways, according to a person close to Lovato who spoke Thursday on the condition of anonymity. The split comes after the couple announced their engagement on Instagram in July, both posting a photo of themselves kissing on the beach.

Lovato and Ehrich began dating this year.

Lovato, 28, has released a number of gold and platinum albums and singles. The Grammy-nominated singer had mostly taken a break from the public since focusing on her recovery after reportedly overdosing in July 2018. Ehrich, 29, who has earned Daytime Emmy nominations for his work in “The Young and the Restless,” has appeared on other TV shows and films and has also released music.

Lizzo triumphs in Vogue:

Grammy winner Lizzo triumphed Thursday in being the first big Black woman to be on the cover of Vogue — a good-as-hell career highlight that came a day after she lamented the Kentucky grand jury decision not to charge any officers in the death of Breonna Taylor.

“I am the first big black woman on the cover of @voguemagazine. The first black anything feels overdue. But our time has come. To all my black girls, if someone like you hasn’t done it yet — BE THE FIRST,” she wrote Thursday of the fashion bible’s October cover.

“This is the blackest and brownest @vogue magazine ever — and I have to brag,” the musician, 32, added.

Lizzo’s Instagram account on Wednesday and Thursday was a mixed bag of emotions between her striking Vogue spread shot by Hype Williams and her somber Instagram stories expressing grief over the Taylor decision.

J-pop stars release single in English:

Japanese pop sensation ARASHI has a big surprise for fans as they near their planned hiatus at year’s end: a collaboration with Bruno Mars on their first allEnglish single.

The band said the Grammy Award-winning musician delved into their back catalog to understand their unique sound while working on the single that was released last week.

“He took into consideration that we are going on hiatus,” said Jun Matsumoto, adding he feels “Whenever You Call” will appeal to both their hardcore fans and “those who do not know about us.”

“We have been releasing music only in Japanese,” Sho Sakurai explained. “In that sense, foreign audiences who can understand Japanese could recognize us. But this time we sang the song in English. Bruno provided us the opportunity to reach out to a foreign audience.”

The group, which also includes Satoshi Ohno, Masaki Aiba and Kazunari Ninomiya, embodied their name — ARASHI means “storm” — by becoming one of Japan’s boy band legends and maintaining their crown for more than two decades. ARASHI will halt all band activities at the end of this year.
