Art museums, galleries plan full seasons

Because of a production error, the listings for many of Central Florida’s major art institutio­ns were left out of our recent Season Preview. Rest assured, these museums and galleries are up and running with scheduled in-person and online events. Here’s a look at what’s going on now and what’s ahead:

MENNELLO MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART

The city-owned museum is at 900 E. Princeton St. in Orlando. Hours are 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. TuesdaySat­urday, noon-4:30 p.m. Sundays. Details: 407-246-4278 or mennellomu­seum.org.

Exhibits

CONSTRUCT: OUR ORLANDO: Through Jan. 10, 2021. Puerto Rican artist Don Rimx and the Lemon Press collective (Filipina artist Anna Cruz and American Adam Lavigne) wrestle with what is high art and what is low art in vibrant contempora­ry work.

AMERICAN YOUTH: CAUSE: Through Jan. 10, 2021. Work by eight Central Florida teens are showcased in this juried show.

AMERICAN ARTISTS IN THE SOUTHWEST FROM THE MELANSON HOLT COLLECTION AND AMERICAN PAINTINGS FROM THE MELANSON HOLT COLLECTION:

Jan. 22-April 11, 2021. Painters and printmaker­s, who lived and created primarily in Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico, throughout the 20th century.

MR. EDDY AND HIS GRAND PORTRAITS: April 23-Aug. 1, 2021. Vibrant portraits by selftaught folk artist Eddy Mumma.

FLOATING BEAUTY: WOMEN IN THE ART OF UKIYO-E: Aug 13.-Nov. 7, 2021. Made up entirely of woodblock prints created in the ukiyo-e style, this exhibition highlights female characters in literature, kabuki theater and poetry; courtesans and geisha; and wives and mothers from different social classes to gain insight into the lives of women in pre-modern Japan.

ART AT LUNCH — LIVE!: Ongoing, Fridays. Curator Katherine Page will discuss a piece of art in the museum each week, live on Facebook.

FREE FAMILY FUNDAY: Ongoing, the second Sunday of each month. Themed events with free admission, a miniature

fine-art project and museum tours. Elements of the event are available online.

YOGA IN THE SCULPTURE GARDEN: Ongoing, the last Sunday of each month.

WHITE CANVAS PARTY: Nov. 7. An online party with art and music. Wine and food may be picked up at the museum ahead of time to enjoy at home.

MORSE MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART

The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum, the world’s leading authority on Louis Comfort Tiffany, has a variety of ongoing exhibition­s pertaining to his life and work, including the Daffodil Terrace from his Laurelton Hall estate and the Chapel he designed for the 1893 World’s Co

Opening

TIFFANY FIREPLACE HOOD: Opens

Oct. 20. A 19th-century Tiffany-designed iron fireplace hood is the newest acquisitio­n by the museum to complement its treasures from Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Laurelton Hall estate.

WATERCOLOR­S FROM LOUIS COMFORT TIFFANY’S ‘LITTLE ARCADIA’: Opens March 2, 2021. A selection of watercolor studies by Tiffany designers that inspired his studio’s enamels and ceramics.

CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN: Opens March 2, 2021. A look at the popular ceramics, through pieces collected over 40 years by Orlando residents Benjamin L. and Nancy Abberger that were recently donated to the museum by their family.

ORLANDO MUSEUM

OF ART

Ongoing exhibits look at art from Africa and the ancient Americas, as well as a retrospect­ive of Belgian landscape painter Louis Dewis. The museum is at 2416 N. Mills Ave. in Orlando. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-4 p.m. SaturdaySu­nday. Details: 407-896-4231 or omart.org.

OLIVER JEFFERS: 15 YEARS OF PICTURING BOOKS:

Through Oct. 25. More than 70 original works chroniclin­g Jeffers’ developmen­t and success as a children’s artist for the past decade and a half.

VOICES & CONVERSATI­ONS: Through May 2, 2021. An exhibition on individual identity, the call for inclusion and equity, and the importance of ongoing engagement and activism.

JEFRË: POINTS OF CONNECTION: Through Jan. 3, 2021. The public artist’s first solo museum show.

ART FROM THE IRANIAN-AMERICAN AND ARAB-AMERICAN DIASPORA: Jan. 29-May 2, 2021. An exhibition cocurated with American University in Cairo.

7TH ANNUAL FLORIDA PRIZE IN CONTEMPORA­RY ART: May 28-Aug. 15, 2021. The annual exhibit features 10 of the most progressiv­e artists working in the state.

J. HYDE CRAWFORD AND ANTHONY TORTORA COLLECTION: July 1-Oct. 30; then continuing in spring 2021. A collection of work and the most significan­t collection ever received by the museum.

FESTIVAL OF TREES: JOY TO THE WORLD — CELEBRATIN­G A SEASON OF JOY:

Nov. 12-29. A holiday extravagan­za of designer-decorated trees, seasonal table décor, custom wreaths and novel gingerbrea­d houses.

ART IN BLOOM: THE FESTIVAL OF FINE ARTS AND FLOWERS: March 26-29, 2021. A museum-wide showcase of spectacula­r fresh floral designs inspired by works from the museum’s collection and exhibition­s.

OSCEOLA ARTS

CELEBRATIN­G HISPANIC ARTISTS AND CULTURE: JURIED ART SHOW: Through Nov. 6. Osceola Arts pays tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month with its 12th annual show.

POLASEK MUSEUM The Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens features work of the Czech sculptor plus temporary exhibits. It is at 633 Osceola Ave. in Winter Park. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. TuesdaySat­urday and 1-4 p.m. Sundays. Details: 407-647-6294 or Polasek.org.

ARTIST TALK: Dec. 6. An online discussion of the “Eyewitness” exhibit with photograph­er Red Huber and Orlando Sentinel managing editor Roger Simmons.

Feb. 19-July 3, 2021. National Geographic photograph­ers Lynn Johnson and Patricia Lanza address the influence of the great artist on art and culture.

MARTIN STRANKA: July 16-Oct. 9, 2021. Solo exhibition by renowned Czech artist Martin Stranka, winner of more than 80 major internatio­nal photograph­y awards.

SOUTH LAKE ART LEAGUE

VAN GOGH AFFECT:
