Disney hiring a hotelier to run the Star Wars hotel

Disney World is hiring for a new senior leader to run its Star Wars hotel.

The advertisement posted this week serves as a reminder the construction project is still moving forward and scheduled to open this year, according to its website. Disney declined Friday to give any more details on when the hotel will officially debut.

“This is a great step as we get closer to inviting guests on an adventure through the galaxy in style. We look forward to sharing more soon,” Disney spokeswoman Andrea Finger said in an email.

Disney has said the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is a two-night experience at Hollywood Studios that fits into the Star Warsthemed land that first opened in 2019.

Disney posted an advertisement for a hotel services director who is a “seasoned hotelier with senior leadership hospitality experience on land or at sea,” according to the company posting.

“A passion for bringing ideas to life, creativity, value a non-traditional work environment, and balance traditional hotel experience with immersive entertainment are all important traits you will need to have to be successful in this role. If selected, you will report to the Regional General Manager — Hotel Operations,” the post said.

In recent months, Disney has teased renderings of the hotel rooms.

The company has been hit hard by the pandemic, which disrupted plans for new rides and eliminated revenue while the theme parks shut down. But in September, the Walt Disney Co. chief financial treasurer Christine McCarthy stressed the Star Wars hotel was still important and had not been halted.

“We’ve really prioritized some of our investment spending,” McCarthy said. “The ones that we’re really focused on are things like the Star Wars hotel that we’ve discussed publicly that will be in Walt Disney World. That’s a priority.”
