Disney: Orange Bird popping up again (twice)
Orange Bird, the animated character that’s fluttered about Walt Disney World for decades, has two new prominent placements at Magic Kingdom and Epcot this week.
The creature appears in a small new mural on the side of Sunshine Tree Terrace, a counter-service restaurant in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland. The imagery includes Orange Bird balancing a dairy treat on his leafy wing while a thought balloon with a heart in it and a sunny face loom. Citrus blossoms are all around on a blue background.
The artwork is smaller than the presentation of Orange Bird on a brick wall in the Town Center area of Disney Springs.
The mural was painted by Abdul Delgado and designed by Chris Gardner, Disney says. The character was created by Disney artists in conjunction with the Florida Citrus Commission, one of the first Walt Disney World sponsors.
Meanwhile, at Epcot, Orange Bird is up for a second round as a “sipper.” The character will double as a drinking vessel again during the 2021 Taste of Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, which begins March 3.
The redesigned sipper now has an additional bit of orange involved — a slice that rests next to O.B. Inside will be a new-to-fest orange-lemon smoothie that’s nonalcoholic. (In the past, you’ve not been able to order alcohol inside the bird; don’t expect that to change this year.) It’s sold at the festival’s Citrus Blossom outdoor kitchen located in the park’s Showcase Plaza.
Looking for sipper cup options? There’s a honey-peach freeze sold
in a souvenir Spike the Bee sold at the Honey Bee-stro outlet during the festival, which runs daily through July 5.
