Universal sets fall 2021 dates for return of Halloween Horror Nights

- By Dewayne Bevil

Universal Orlando has announced 2021 dates for Halloween Horror Nights and identified a haunted house for the event. Can you say Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice?

The HHN website says it will have the event at Universal Studios theme park on 42 nights between Sept. 3 and Oct. 31. Last year’s scare fest was canceled in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Universal provided limited access to three of the event’s 10 planned mazes last year, including one for Beetlejuice, based on the 1998 film starring Michael Keaton.

The site also refers to the event as HHN 30, leaving last year officially unnumbered. It doesn’t mention Bride of Frankenstein Lives or Revenge of the Tooth Fairy, two other houses that were given showings to theme-park day guests in 2020.

“’Bout time you losers gave me my own house,” the Beetlejuice character says in a video released on social media by Universal.

The site refers to the upcoming Beetlejuice experience as having checkerboard hallways, the Lost Souls Room, the model

graveyard and “the infamous dinner party scene” and “Beetlejuice’s chaotic wedding.” Beetlejuice props and décor also were featured last year in the Tribute Store, a temporary merchandise shop in the park.

There are nine other slots left on the haunted house page with the notation “coming soon.” The site also makes reference to scare zones and live entertainment but does not share specifics.

Coronavirus precautions could still be in place this fall.

“Specific details about health and safety procedures for Halloween Horror Nights 2021 will be revealed closer to the event’s debut,” the site says.

Specific HHN dates are Oct. 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 30 and Oct. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15,16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31.

Tickets are not yet on sale. Customers who bought tickets or packages for last year’s HHN and did not request a full refund will be able to use their tickets for the 2021 event, the site says. Details will be forthcoming, Universal says.
