4,098 new cases, 63 resident deaths

Florida’s resident death toll from coronaviru­s rose to 31,683 with the addition of 63 more reported fatalities on Sunday while also adding 4,098 more positive COVID19 cases to bring the total to 1,944,995.

From Sunday to Sunday, Florida saw 35,774 new cases and 831 newly reported deaths, according to state health department data.

In comparison, the week ending February 28 saw 40,449 new cases and 946 newly reported resident deaths.

With 583 non-Florida resident deaths, including 3 new reported Sunday, the state’s combined total stands at 32,266. Each report includes deaths from several previous days, as it can take weeks and sometimes several months for reports to appear.

From Sunday to Sunday, the state reported 1,610 new resident hospitaliz­ations, compared to the previous week’s 1,649.

Current COVID-19 hospitaliz­ations have been declining from a high of more than 7,600 in January.

Last Sunday, 3,728 people were hospitaliz­ed, across the state. This Sunday, 3,352 people were hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19 as of 2 p.m., including 160 in Orange County, 76 in Osceola, 69 in Lake and 60 in Seminole. The state’s online tool updates several times throughout the day.

To date, 80,954 people have been hospitaliz­ed in Florida, according to the state’s report, which includes 92 newly reported hospitaliz­ations since Saturday’s update.

Statewide, 3,550,139 people have received the first dose of the coronaviru­s vaccine, of which 1,941,468 people have received the second dose. The count is a snapshot through Saturday, based on the report released Sunday.

Of those who have received at least the first dose, 2,629,254 are over the age of 65.

From Sunday to Sunday, 189,285 people were tested, down from the previous week’s figure of 213,790 people.

The March testing average so far is about 27,600 per day, compared to about 46,500 in January and 32,573 in February.

The most recently available positivity rate from the Florida Department of Health is below. Statewide, the latest positivity rate reported Sunday for Saturday’s test results by the Florida Department of Health was 5.84%, but that’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive. For all cases, the positivity rate was 8.39%.

Central Florida added 766 cases on Sunday for a total of 343,046: That includes 238 more in Orange for 116,367; 108 more in Polk for 58,116; 84 in Osceola for 37,497; 50 in Volusia for 35,159; 119 in Brevard for 34,767; 67 in

Seminole for 27,792; 73 in Lake for 25,156; and 27 in Sumter for 8,192.

There were 10 new deaths across all eight Central Florida counties bringing the region’s toll to 5,469. Polk County has the most coronaviru­s fatalities in the region with 1,175, followed by 1,126 in Orange, 764 in Brevard, 677 in Volusia, 583 in Lake, 459 in Osceola, 442 in Seminole and 243 in Sumter.

Central Florida accounts for more than 17.6% of the cases statewide and more than 17.3% of the deaths.

South Florida, home to 29% of Florida’s population, accounts for 38.2% of cases with 742,426.

That includes 1,987 new cases reported Sunday among Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
