Florida’s resident death toll from coronaviru­s rose to 32,145 with the addition of 105 more reported fatalities on Friday while also adding 5,214 more positive COVID-19 cases to bring the total to 1,967,865.

The total number of resident deaths in Florida has decreased in the last 7 days, with the state reporting 623 deaths compared to 898 fatalities the previous week. The daily average for resident deaths, therefore, has decreased from 128 to 89.

With 599 non-Florida resident deaths, the state’s combined total stands at 32,744. Each report includes deaths from several previous days, as it can take weeks and sometimes several months for reports to appear.

Across the state, 3,115 people were hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19 as of 2 p.m. Friday including 141 in Orange County, 66 in Osceola, 48 in Lake and 75 in Seminole. The state’s online tool updates several times throughout the day.

To date, 83,320 people have been hospitaliz­ed in Florida, according to the state’s report, which includes 249 newly reported hospitaliz­ations since Thursday’s update.

Statewide, 4,031,776 people have received at least one vaccinatio­n shot including 2,203,788 who have completed their shot regimen, whether it’s the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna option or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Of those who have received at least the first dose, 2,856,863 are over the age of 65.

To date, 11,421,719 people have been tested in Florida, 29,904 more than Thursday’s total.

Statewide, the latest positivity rate reported Friday for Thursday’s test results by the Florida Department of Health was 4.88%, but that’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive. For all tested, the positivity rate is 6.34%.

Central Florida added 954 cases on Friday for a total of 347,154: That includes 289 more in Orange for 117,597; 124 more in Polk for 58,691; 78 in Osceola for 37,892; 136 in Volusia for 35,696; 157 in Brevard for 35,342; 76 in Seminole for 28,195; 66 in Lake for 25,444; and 28 in Sumter for 8,297.

There were 9 new deaths across all eight Central Florida counties bringing the region’s toll to 5,525. Polk County has the most coronaviru­s fatalities in the region with 1,191, followed by 1,139 in Orange, 773 in Brevard, 686 in Volusia, 585 in Lake, 465 in Osceola, 444 in Seminole and 242 in Sumter.

The virus has infected nearly 119 million people and has killed more than 2.6 million worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronaviru­s Resource Center. Nationwide, over 29 million people have been infected and over 531,000 are dead.
