UCF deputy athletics director Scott Carr has been named Florida International University’s new athletic director, the school announced Tuesday.

Carr had been a member of the UCF Athletics staff since 2016. He joined the Knights as executive associate athletics director/ chief marketing officer and was promoted to deputy athletics director for brand activation in April 2018.

In January, Carr was named interim AD following the departure of former UCF AD Danny White to the University of Tennessee.

“My family and I couldn’t be more excited to join the FIU family and serve as your next Director of Athletics,” Carr said in a press release. “I see the tremendous opportunities to grow FIU Athletics.”

Before UCF, Carr served as senior associate athletic director for external affairs at Auburn University. He also held positions at the University of Southern Mississippi and the FedEx Orange Bowl.

“Scott has a track record of helping student-athletes succeed on and off the field,” FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg said in the release. “Scott is the right leader

for FIU Athletics at this time in the history of our program.”

A native of Gainesville, Carr earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Florida in 1995 and a master’s degree in sports management in 1997.

As deputy athletics director at

UCF, he had oversight of ticket sales and operations, corporate sales and partnerships, the annual fund, brand advancement, strategic communications and game-day experience.

“All of us who are part of UCF Athletics is thrilled for Scott/Pam Carr and the opportunity,” UCF

AD Terry Mohajir wrote on Twitter. “Earning a FBS athletics director position is a tremendous honor and very challenging to attain! I’m a big fan of Scott Carr—we wish him well and much success.”

Carr assisted directly with the hiring of head football coach Josh Heupel in December 2017. Carr also assisted in the hiring of head women’s basketball coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson in March 2016.

“Congratulations to FIU - y’all got a great one! Brilliant hire by President Rosenberg!” White wrote on Twitter. “Can’t wait to see the impact Scott’s leadership will have on the Panthers!”

Carr succeeds interim athletics director Heath Glick, who led the program while a national search was conducted for a new athletics director.

Glick became interim AD after former FIU AD Pete Garcia resigned from the post Nov. 10.

One of Carr’s first duties will be to hire a football coach. Former FIU coach Butch Davis will not return in 2022, the school announced five days after Garcia resigned.

The Panthers have gone 1-15 since upsetting Miami 30-24 on Nov. 23, 2019. The lone win in that span was against FCS-school Long Island University to open this season.

“We have an outstanding academic institution, a large, energetic student body, tremendous staff, coaches and student-athletes, passionate alumni and we’re located in a phenomenal city,” Carr said. “I can’t wait to get started!”
