Report: Roster overhaul coming for Pride

Popular captains Harris and Krieger to be traded to NJ/NY Gotham FC

A roster overhaul for the Orlando Pride appears to be in the works this offseason.

According to a report from The Athletic, veterans and popular club captains Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris will be traded to NJ/NY Gotham FC.

It’s unclear what Orlando will get in return from the trade, per the report.

The move comes during an evaluation process the club is taking with the Pride. On Monday, the club announced it had parted ways with Pride vice president Amanda Duffy after two years with the team.

The next day, the club announced Jarrod Dillon as the team’s president of business operations, a newly-created position.

Earlier in the week, The Equalizer’s Jeff Kassouf reported that the Pride are in the process of hiring former UCF women’s soccer and current UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell as their next head coach.

The deal is still waiting to get finalized in the coming days, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday.

Jodie Taylor traded

The Pride announced earlier changes to their roster on Wednesday, sending English forward Jodie Taylor to 2022 expansion club, San Diego Wave FC.

In return, the Pride will receive a second- and third-round pick in the 2023 draft as well as an undisclosed amount of allocation money.

The 35-year-old attacker played only the 2021 season, scoring three goals in 13 appearances for the Pride.

Key dates

The 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft is slated for Dec. 16 at 7 p.m., which will then be followed by the NWSL draft scheduled for Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. Both drafts will televise on CBS Sports, including Paramount+.

The expansion draft will serve useful for incoming teams Angel City FC and San Diego Wave FC. Both clubs will begin their inaugural season in 2022.
