Harry L. Haskins was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and passed away January 9 in Leesburg, Florida. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; daughter, Barbara Oberman (David) and grandchild­ren: Allison Cornelius (Johnny), Robert Oberman (Tara) and Katherine Anne Oberman.

He graduated from Hiram College, Ohio (BA); Stetson University (MA); with further studies at Universida­d Internacio­nal de Mexico, Rollins College, and the University of Florida. He was a commission­ed officer in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War with a specialty in cryptograp­hy.

His career after military service was entirely with the Orange County Public School System as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and the district director for secondary education. During his administra­tive tenure, schools were desegregat­ed. Additional­ly, he was a pioneer for electronic scheduling, grading and record keeping and ultimately led the expansion, upgrading, and standardiz­ation of the entire district-wide curriculum. For years, he taught adjunct courses at Valencia State and Florida Southern Colleges. He also served twenty-five years as director of what is now called Addition Financial Credit Union.

After retirement, he lived in Spring Hill, Florida (1989-2006) and later Leesburg, actively volunteeri­ng in church work, teaching ESL to migrants, serving as “Big Brother” for children with special needs, doing precinct work, helping at a food bank, etc.

Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park Orlando, with a private family service on January 14.
