Disney exec’s letter shifted from magic to politics
I am in complete agreement with much of what Ben May had to say in his letter to the editor on Sunday (“Ex-Disney executive: DeSantis can’t affect core values”). His reference to Disney’s “acceptance and tolerance for every kind of individual regardless of ethnicity and sexual preference.” A company teeming “with some of the brightest and kindest people.” All true. the Walt Disney Co. is and always will be, one of a kind.
Interestingly, however, as his words denigrated Florida’s conservative governor, Ron DeSantis, I realized that he was able to change hats in the middle of his thought process. Going from devout Disney executive to a progressive ideologue. He refers to Disney as a “social catalyst” as opposed to the world’s preeminent producer of family entertainment in all its forms and fashions.
During my 30 years with Disney, my mission, and the mission of the extraordinary “cast members” that I worked with throughout Disney’s global operations, was always based on unfettered imagination, excitement, and the highest quality family entertainment products for all of our audiences ... not politics.
I wonder if Mr. May would like to be the Disney cast member that was chosen to tell Walt Disney that the Disney theme park operators were no longer allowed to say, “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” over the public address systems? Good luck!
