Ocoee safety Zach Tobe likes UCF, but offers keep rolling in

- By Chris Hays

Zach Tobe has been a mainstay in the Ocoee secondary since his sophomore season, but he didn’t exactly draw quick attention from college recruiters.

The recruiters, however, finally have noticed Tobe, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound 2023 safety for the Knights who is reeling in the offers.

He said he has 27 offers and rattled off a few Thursday night that stand out to him, although he said he has not narrowed his list to a top five.

“I like UNC, Boston College, Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, UCF ... that’s about it right now; just the schools I can think of off the top of my head,” Tobe said. “When I first started getting recruited, UCF was the offer I wanted the most because it’s right at home. My parents and my family could come to every game. When I got that offer [in January], I felt real good about it.”

He has plenty more to think about now, and since recruiting has picked up, Tobe said he has enjoyed the process.

“It’s been very fun for me. It’s always been a dream for me to play college football, and to have all these great programs trying to get me to come to their school has been amazing.”

He said getting on the field early has been beneficial, yet he also said he has plenty of things he would like to work on.

“Playing early definitely helped me and gave me more experience so I could shine early,” Tobe said. “Being able to start during my sophomore year gave me the leverage so that now I’m above a lot of people in my class.

“I want to work on my endurance, staying consistent and my man coverage ... being able to play the ball and just being an overall good player so I can help my team win.”
