Palm Beach County ‘lib’ is accused of threatening Boebert online last summer

- By Rafael Olmeda

A Palm Beach County man is facing federal charges for making online threats against Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, a conservative darling known for her unwavering support of the Second Amendment and the 45th president.

Officials say Matthew Lee Comiskey made several posts on Twitter last summer threatening violence against Boebert. “I got my second amendment tool all ready to destroy Lauren’s face,” he allegedly wrote in one post. “Hopefully in front of her kids.”

In another, he warned the congresswoman not to come to South Florida. “Us libs have big guns here and we stand [our] ground. Take you down like Trayvon.” Trayvon Martin was a Black teenager whose 2012 shooting death was a precursor to the national Black Lives Matter movement.

“Someone needs to put Lauren down like a sick dog,” Comiskey is accused of writing in a third post. “Since the CIA is a failure and the FBI is incompetent at charging her for being a terrorist, it’s time to do it ourselves. Pew, pew, Lauren.”

Information about the defendant, other than his name, was not available Friday afternoon.

According to court records, Comiskey appeared Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge

Ryon M. McCabe, charged with five counts of making online, interstate electronic threats. Each count carries a maximum prison term of five years.

Arraignment is set for Wednesday at the federal courthouse in West Palm Beach.

“I’m thankful for the professional and effective work of the Capitol Police and the FBI,” Boebert said

in an emailed statement Friday. “The hateful and dangerous lies by Fake News outlets like Business Insider and the HuffPost encourage these sick people to make such threats against me and my family. These threats will not deter me from my work to effectively represent the 3rd District of Colorado and secure the rights of the American people.”

Boebert made no mention of the case on her Twitter page Friday, though she did once again express support for gun ownership rights. “Joe Biden’s unconstitutional speech on gun control was filled with so many ill-informed Leftist talking points,” she wrote. “Let me make one thing clear — the Second Amendment IS NOT GOING AWAY!”
