Seminole took home the FCA Honoring Legends Classic championship with a 64-57 win over Lake Brantley on Saturday at Boone High School.

With the victory, the Seminoles (14-8) won their fifth straight and 10 of their last 12 games.

“The chemistry is coming around at the right time,” Seminole coach Sylvester Wynn said. “We’re just trying to peak at the right time.”

Sophomore guard Gian-Paul Anderson led Seminole with 18 points. Senior guard Gabriel Sellers scored 16 and won MVP of the tournament. Nine of his came in the third quarter, where he made three 3-pointers to help the Seminoles tie it at 49 heading into the fourth.

Lake Brantley (15-7) had led by 7 points on two occasions in the quarter.

“All week he’s been leading the team,” Wynn said of Sellers. “Once he got himself settled down, he came back in, did what he usually does and took over the game.”

The meeting was the second between Seminole Athletic Conference rivals. Lake Brantley prevailed 66-58 on Dec. 12.

The Patriots have lost four of their last five games, with their previous three losses decided by 3 points or fewer.

Senior forward Eric Vandendriessche and senior point guard Nolan Moran each had 12 points.

The Patriots led by 2 points after the first, and the score was knotted after the second and third quarters. Both teams exchanged buckets to start the fourth, and Seminole led 56-53 after a layup from Sellers with 4:37 to play.

Moran got to the basket for a layup to cut Seminole’s lead to 1 before a timeout with 3:58 to play.

Senior forward Tyrique Lewis drained a pair of free throws and junior guard Josiah Shackelford got to the rim for a layup to extend the Seminoles’ lead to 5 with 1:55 left.

Late free throws from Sellers and senior forward Yeziell Alvarez put the game out of reach in the final minute.

Seminole hosts Lake Mary (13-9) on Monday while Lake Brantley goes on the road to face Bishop Moore (11-11).
