Title fight with Kissimmee’s Vargas headlines at Caribe Royale

Two title bouts featuring Orlando-area fighters are on tap for Saturday at Caribe Royale at 6:30 p.m.

In the main event, Antonio Vargas (15-1, eight KOs) will fight Michell Banquez (20-2, 14 KOs) for the vacant WBA Continenta­l Americas bantamweig­ht belt in a 10-round bout.

In the co-main event, Nestor Bravo (21-0, 15 KOs) will defend his NABO junior welterweig­ht belt for the first time when he faces Jair Valtierra (16-2, eight KOs) in a 10-rounder. Both fights will be televised Sunday via tape delay on Bally Sports at 10:30 p.m.

Vargas, a 2016 Olympian and K is sim me ere si dent, spent more than 2 years away from the ring before returning July 23. In his three fights since the hiatus Var gas has won each bout by stoppage.

Banquez, a native of Venezuela, was on a six-fight winning streak, including three over unbeaten fighters, before losing by a unanimous decision to Ramon Cardenas (21-1, 10 KOs) on July 9.

Bravo, an Orlando native by way of Puerto Rico and Cypress Creek High School graduate, has won 9 of 11 bouts by stop page. He won the NABO junior welterweig­ht title Oct. 26, when he stopped Adrian Yung in the seventh round in Puerto Rico.

The fight will be Br av o’ s first in Orlando since Oct. 20, 2018.

“I have a really strong foundation in Orlando, Florida, as well as in Puerto Rico,” Bravo said. “I’m blessed, and it’s really important to me ... defending my belt will just get me real close to that world title shot.”

Val tier ra, a native of Mexico, started his career 15-0 before losing 2 of 3, including a unanimous decision to Raymond Murtalla (16-0, 13 KOs) on July 15.
