Roaches, backed-up sewage, ungloved employees lead to restaurant shutdowns

Three Central Florida restaurant­s shut down in the week of Feb. 26-March 3, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Profession­al Regulation.

Orange County

Hibachi Express at 320 Moore Road in Ocoee shut down on Feb. 27. Inspectors found 12 violations, three of which were a high priority. Those violations include non-food grade paper used as a liner for the food container, roach activity and a repeat violation for food held without a proper time marking.

Inspectors revisited the restaurant on Feb. 28. They found four violations, none of which were a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Osceola County

Los Tatos Hot Dog at 5811 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee shut down on Feb. 28. Inspectors found nine violations, four of which were a high priority. Those violations included an employee failing to wash their hands before prepping the food, an employee touching ready-toeat food with their bare hands, the restaurant not having any potable running water and ground beef being prepared in a private home.

On March 2, the restaurant complied with the emergency order.

Brevard County

Fiesta Azteca Mexican Rest at 3194 W. New Haven Ave. in West Melbourne shut down on Feb. 27. Inspectors found eight violations and one high-priority violation for sewage/wastewater backing up through the floors.

Inspectors revisited the restaurant on Feb. 28. They found six violations, none of which were a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida with 29.

Volusia had 19, Brevard had 16, Seminole had 14, Osceola had four and Lake had one. Warnings given with required follow-up inspection­s could lead to a business being shut down if problems remain.
