Christmas in July, Astro Fest, jazz, more

- Patrick Connolly Central Florida Explorer

With global temperatures breaking records and Florida feeling especially steamy, let’s turn our attention to something that feels cooler: Christmas.

Sanford’s annual Christmas in July shopping event is back this weekend, along with Orlando Science Center’s Astro Fest and a milestone for Blue Bamboo Arts in Winter Park. In addition, it’s National Ice Cream Day and a Christmas in July edition of Orlando’s food truck parking lot party.

Here are ways to make the most of hot and humid Central Florida this weekend.

Sanford’s Christmas in July

Though the sweltering heat suggests otherwise, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Seminole County. Shop, sip and stroll around historic downtown Sanford this Saturday to explore deals from local bars, restaurants and businesses. Stop by the Sanford Information Center on 1st Street to pick up a shopping passport, which gives participants the chance to win a raffle.

Christmas in July is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 15 in historic downtown Sanford. More information: facebook.com/HistoricDowntownSanford

Orlando Science Center Astro Fest

Explore the cosmos without ever leaving Florida, thanks to Orlando Science Center’s Astro Fest. The activities, which include guided tours through the solar system, astronaut training and chemistry experiments, are included with the price of admission.

Astro Fest occurs this weekend during OSC’s operating hours, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 15-16. Tickets are $24 for adults and $18 for children ages 2-11. More information: osc. org
