FHSAA regional tournament­s continue with a matchup of unbeatens

Lake Mary and East Ridge of Clermont face off today in a Florida High School Athletic Associatio­n girls soccer playoff matchup of undefeated teams.

It’s one of many regional quarterfin­al games on tap for boys and girls teams in Class 7A, 6A and 5A. Winners advance to Friday’s semifinal round.

Lake Nona’s unbeaten boys team is the No. 1 seed in 7A Region 2. Windermere High is No. 2.

Celebratio­n and Horizon are No. 2 in their respective boys regions.

Seven Orlando area teams in 4A, 3A and 2A play in regional championsh­ip games Wednesday.

Local girls matchups include No. 2 Satellite (18-4-1) at No. 1 Bishop Moore (12-6-2) in 4A, No. 3 Tampa Berkeley Prep (16-4-0) at No. 1 Montverde Academy (15-41) in 3A and No. 3 Geneva School (15-2-0) at No. 1 Lakeland Christian (20-3-1) in 2A.

Boys games are No. 2 Satellite (12-1-6) at No. 1 Bishop Moore (22-2-0) in 4A, No. 2 Lake Highland Prep (11-6-1) at No. 1 Tampa Prep (16-1-2) in 3A and No. 4 Circle Christian (9-5-1) at No. 2 Orangewood Christian (14-3-1) in 2A.

Orangewood defeated Circle Christian 2-0 in December. Circle won 2-1 last week at No. 1 seed Lakeland Christian (16-4-2).

Bishop Moore’s home doublehead­er starts with the girls game at 5 p.m. followed by the boys at 7 p.m.

Boys soccer

Class 7A Region 1

No. 8 Boone (11-5-1) at No. 1 Jacksonvil­le Mandarin (17-0-2)

No. 5 Lake Mary (13-5-3) at No. 4 Ocoee (13-6-2)

No. 2 St. Johns Creekside (16-5-2) at No. 7 Seminole (10-5-3)

No. 6 Ocala West Port (15-3-0) at No. 3 West Orange (10-4-1)

Buzz: Seminole is hosting as a district champion. Ocoee defeated Lake Mary 2-0 when they last met in 2010. Ocoee junior Jacob Munoz has 14 goals and 8 assists and senior Alexis Barajas has 13 goals. West Orange senior Finlay Prain has tallied 14 goals and 4 assists for the Warriors. Boone seniors Luis Quiroz, Ezekiel Rivero and Kyle Rhodes have combined for 17 goals. Class 7A Region 2

No. 5 Sarasota Riverview (10-3-3) at No. 4 Cypress Creek (12-3-3) No. 7 Olympia (11-7-1) at No. 2 Windermere High (13-1-1)

No. 6 North Port (12-3-4) at No. 3 Plant City Durant (11-1-1)

Buzz: Olympia defeated Windermere 3-2 in a district semifinal for its first win in the series since 2018. Windermere won 4-2 in December. Cypress Creek senior Santiago Tovar has 17 goals and 5 assists. Lake Nona has won 11 in a row as seniors Carlos Rojas, Alexander Dollard and Javier Ortega have combined for 38 goals.

Class 7A Region 3

No. 7 Wellington Palm Beach Central (7-1-4) at No. 2 Celebratio­n (9-2-2)

No. 6 Boca Raton Olympic Heights (11-7-4) at No. 3 Jupiter (11-2-2) Buzz: Celebratio­n, a region finalist last year, has won eight in a row and allowed just eight goals this season. Anyelo Castellano, Josa Mora and Marcelo Rodriguez each has scored five goals.

Class 6A Region 2

No. 8 Lakeland Lake Gibson (13-61) at No. 1 Viera (18-2-0)

No. 5 Oviedo (8-5-5) at No. 4 Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer (12-5-2) No. 7 Palm Bay Heritage (7-3-3) at No. 2 New Smyrna Beach (23-1-1) No. 6 St. Cloud (12-5-2) at No. 3 Melbourne (12-4-2)

Buzz: Melbourne defeated St. Cloud 5-0 in a district semifinal before edging defending 6A state champ Viera 3-2 in the championsh­ip game. Oviedo is led by junior Ellison Ruffin (12 goals, 7 assists) and senior Adam Abdelaal (11 goals, 8 assists).

Class 5A Region 2

No. 8 Lake Buena Vista (9-7-0) at No. 1 Tampa Jesuit (17-1-4)

No. 5 Wesley Chapel Cypress Creek (10-5-0) at No. 4 Kissimmee Gateway (13-4-1)

No. 7 Wesley Chapel (11-7-2) at No. 2 Horizon (11-3-4)

No. 6 Palm Coast Matanzas (11-42) at No. 3 New Port Richey River Ridge (15-3-1)

Buzz: Horizon fell short vs. Jesuit in last year’s region final. Senior Ricardo Davila has 16 goals (6 assists) and Karson Vazquez (10 goals) has 23 assists for the Hawks. Gateway is led by junior Jose Calderon (14 goals) and senior Nicolas Quintero (10 goals). Juniors Rayan Daoudi and Camilo Gaitan have combined for 17 goals for Lake Buena Vista.

Girls soccer Class 7A Region 1

No. 8 Lake Brantley (12-5-0) at No. 1 St. Johns Bartram Trail (14-4-1) No. 5 Jacksonvil­le Atlantic Coast (11-3-3) at No. 4 Hagerty (13-0-3) No. 7 Winter Park (8-2-3) at No. 2 St. Johns Creekside (11-1-2)

No. 6 Clermont East Ridge (14-0-2) at No. 3 Lake Mary (14-0-4) Buzz: Defending state champion Bartram Trail tops a region that includes three undefeated teams. Hagerty junior Valeria Romero has 18 goals and senior Megan O’Donnell has 16 goals and 13 assists. East Ridge seniors Cayla Jackson (35 goals, 22 assists) and Morgan Guillemett­e (21 goals, 20 assists) face a Lake Mary squad that’s allowed just 6 goals. Seniors Claire Lee (11 goals) and Ellison Kinsley (7 goals, 9 assists) pace Winter Park. Sophomore Summer Kaufman has 13 goals and 13 assists and senior Jayla Espinosa has 9 goals and 10 assists for Lake Brantley. Class 7A Region 2

No. 8 Lake Nona (10-6-1) at No. 1 Lithia Newsome (19-1-0)

No. 5 Bradenton Lakewood Ranch (6-3-2) at No. 4 Lutz Steinbrenn­er (13-3-2)

Buzz: Lake Nona split playoff games vs. Newsome in 2017 and 2018. Newsome has won 15 in a row and given up just 10 goals this

season.

Class 7A Region 3

No. 8 Celebratio­n (12-3-0) at No. 1 Boca Raton (14-2-2)

No. 4 Boca Raton Spanish River (9-6-1) at No. 5 Jupiter (6-7-4) No. 7 Boca Raton Olympic Heights (21-3-0) at No. 2 Wellington (13-30)

No. 6 Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast (9-9-0) at No. 3 Harmony (13-3-0) Buzz: Sophomore Gabriella Guzman has 12 goals and 15 assists for Harmony, which has won six in a row. Celebratio­n faces 2023 state runner-up Boca Raton. Junior Anna Balba (11 goals) and Ellie Armstrong (9 goals, 8 assists) lead the Storm.

Class 6A Region 2

No. 2 Oviedo (12-1-3) at No. 7 Edgewater (10-4-3)

No. 6 Lakeland George Jenkins (12-5-3) at No. 3 Loxahatche­e Seminole Ridge (11-2-2)

Buzz: District champion Edgewater defeated Oviedo 1-0 on Jan. 26. Senior Ella Mendelsohn has 9 goals and 4 assists for the Eagles. Oviedo reached last year’s state semifinals.

Class 5A Region 2

No. 8 Tampa Freedom (6-8-1) at No. 1 Wesley Chapel Cypress Creek (15-1-2)

No. 5 Lake Wales (12-4-1) at No. 4 Horizon (12-3-1)

Buzz: Cypress Creek is the defending region champion. Horizon defeated Lake Wales 3-2 last month in a district tournament semifinal. Aida Bell has 8 goals and 9 assists for the Hawks.
